The 2027 Subaru Trailseeker is the largest and quickest Subaru EV, starting at $39,995 MSRP with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, 375 horsepower, a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.3 seconds, up to 281 miles of EPA-estimated range, 8.5 inches of ground clearance and a 3,500-pound tow rating.

For drivers who aren't ready to plug in, the 2027 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid starts at $33,995 MSRP for the Sport Hybrid, and the 2027 Subaru Forester Hybrid starts at $34,730 MSRP for the Premium Hybrid. Both pair a 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER engine with electric motors for 194 combined horsepower, both come with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and neither ever needs to be plugged in. Subaru rates the Crosstrek Hybrid for an EPA-estimated 598 miles on a single tank of fuel.

Electric, hybrid or gas: how to choose in Niagara County

An electric Subaru makes the most sense for a Niagara County driver who can charge at home overnight. Every 2027 Solterra, Trailseeker and Uncharted uses the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, and Subaru says that port gives access to more than 25,000 charging stations in North America. At a DC fast charger, each of the three can go from 10% to 80% in about 28 minutes at up to an estimated 150 kW. The Solterra also has an 11 kW onboard charger for quicker home charging on a Level 2 wall unit.

A hybrid makes more sense if you can't charge at home, if you regularly drive long stretches beyond Niagara County, or if you simply want better fuel economy without changing how you refuel. The Crosstrek Hybrid and Forester Hybrid fill up at any gas station and charge their own batteries as you drive.

A gas Subaru is still the lowest starting price. The 2027 Crosstrek starts at $26,995 MSRP and the 2027 Forester at $29,995 MSRP, both with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, so the hybrid versions cost several thousand dollars more up front.

Winter driving on the electrified Subarus

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Solterra, the Trailseeker, the Crosstrek Hybrid, the Forester Hybrid and the Uncharted Sport and GT, and the all-wheel-drive EVs add Subaru's X-MODE traction system for snow and rough roads. There is one honest exception worth knowing before you shop: the Uncharted Premium FWD is front-wheel drive, not all-wheel drive, so a Lockport-area driver who wants AWD in an Uncharted should look at the Sport or GT.
